How TariffCatalog Works

Methodology

HS Candidate Logic

Static seed matching first

The HS Code Finder uses seed examples, product-term matching, material clues, usage terms, confidence labels, risk flags, and review questions. It returns candidate codes for review before filing.

Import Duty Formula

Auto resolve within coverage, editable inputs outside

Within the coverage boundary, the connected calculator resolves duty rate, Section 301 additional tariff, MPF, and HMF from official tariff sources and the TariffResolver. When inputs fall outside the coverage boundary or require manual verification, the calculator returns editable fields. Users should source-check rates before final use. The output is always estimate-only.

Landed Cost Formula

Shipment cost basis

Landed cost includes product cost, freight, insurance, duty, tax, and import fees so sellers can estimate the cost basis for an international shipment.

DDP Quote Formula

Delivered-duty-paid preparation

DDP estimate equals factory goods, freight, insurance, duty, additional tariff, taxes, broker fees, delivery, and markup. It is quote preparation support only.

CSV Local Parsing

No catalog storage

CSV files are parsed locally in the browser. TariffCatalog does not upload, store, or write back product catalog files from the checker.

Static Pages

Static first, minimal dynamic endpoints

Astro pages are static and crawlable. Cloudflare Pages Functions handle tariff resolution requests, correction submissions, and tariff intelligence workflows. Cloudflare D1 stores canonical tariff measures, HTS node hierarchies, and user tariff watch items within the coverage boundary.
