What does 'as-of' mean in tariff calculation?
As-of means a tariff rate is resolved at a single point in time — a past entry date, today, or a future effective date. The as-of calculator finds the versioned tariff measure that was or will be active on the date you specify, then resolves the applicable duty rate from that layer.
Can I look up what tariffs applied to my goods last year?
Yes. Enter the HTS code, country of origin, and the historical entry date. The resolver will return the tariff treatment as it was effective on that date, including any additional tariff programs that were active at the time.
What is the difference between historical and future-effective tariff queries?
A historical query uses a past entry date and resolves measures that were active then. A future-effective query uses a future date — the resolver shows measures that are announced or currently effective and may carry a "needs_verification" note since announced tariffs may change before their effective date.
Why does my future tariff query show 'needs_verification'?
Future-effective tariff measures may not yet have a fully parsed rate expression or confirmed effective date in the source data. The needs_verification note signals that the rate should be confirmed against the most current official source before relying on it for filing or quoting.
How does the as-of calculator handle Section 301 tariffs?
If a Section 301 Chapter 99 measure was active for the HTS code, origin, and entry date you enter, it will appear as a separate tariff layer in the results with its own rate expression, measure name, and source reference. Excluded products or suspended rates are flagged in the verification notes.
Is the as-of tariff estimate guaranteed to match my actual customs bill?
No. The as-of result is an estimate backed by the tariff measure database. Customs may apply additional processing rules, bonding requirements, or post-entry adjustments. Verify all rates and classifications with USITC, CBP, or a qualified customs broker before filing.
